Received the phone call I have been waiting a long time for today and it caught me totally off guard to say the least.

I was notified that I was selected for the job I applied for about 6 months ago. I don't know but I hope it's not a case of "Be careful what you wish for". I hate to sound pessimistic, but sometimes we get our hopes up high and things fall short of our expectations. But I plan to make the very best out of the situation after all, I have done my best to try and land this gig.

I took the exam for this job last March and went through a series of screenings which was basically crawling up the butt with a microscope. I have NEVER been scrutinized that much for a job in my life, but it is a private corporation that does this type of screening for their prospective employees. The most I have ever been through was a urine test, but that was just the beginning with this place. I just hope it works out. I actually left my last job early because I was not happy there at all and I knew I had some things lined up, but nothing in stone as of yet. I just rolled the dice. I need to get back to work, I am craving it. This is the longest vacation I have ever been on.

The job pays pretty good and has great benies, but the main thing that attracted me was the lo-cal. It's not far from where I live, so the commute is great for me. That was one of my main concerns especially after working downtown in the city and having to deal with a 1 1/2 to 2 hour train commute every day. And that's after putting in 10 to 12 hours working in advertising. I have to confess, those corporate jobs SUCK! For those kiddies getting out of college and shooting for the stars, best of luck. But know that it's a brutal dog eat dog cut throat environment. I mean it's wherever you go, but I've seen it at it's worst. But, I dig experiencing things and learning from them.

I really hope this works out. I don't mind working hard and paying my dues, I been paying them since I was 18 but I am just looking for a home so to speak. After all, you spend most of the hours out of your day working at a spot. Might as well be comfortable with who you work for.

I had a job interview today and it was quite an experience to say the least. I have had my share of interviews and I consider myself a veteran however today was something totally new. The job is a civil service position in the city I live and man they crawl up your ass with a microscope. So much that it' almost literal. I have never been through anything like that before in my life.

The interview went well and pretty pleasant, however its just the extensive background check and screening that they do afterward. They dig deep into your life going years back. Now, I really don't have anything to hide, but I felt VERY uncomfortable. After I interviewed I had to take an immediate urinalysis drug screening and then they gave me a packet to take home that had a ton of papers that I have to fill out and have most notarized. They want credit reports, copies a proof of address, selective service records and a slew of things too long to mention here.
Then, they go beyond the usual references. They want applicants to take three of the 30-40 pages and get 3 people not related to me and have them fill it out to verify that I have lived where I live and where I lived before that. Then they want the people to get it notarized. I was like who can I ask to take the time out of their busy schedule to do all that?!
Then we have to come back and take a physical, stress test to see how we handle pressure and a psychological evaluation. I was like WTF! I knew that they screen people going into this but I had no idea it was this intense.

I have to say I was rather disappointed with all of this mess. You would think I am applying for the FBI or CIA or something. It kinda makes me not even want the job. :(
